Are you a Smart Blogger?

Are you a Smart Blogger?

Posted by Jeevan Jacob John in Blog, Blogging, General Blogging

First of all, ‘What does “Smart Blogger” mean’?

A Smart Blogger is a blogger who blogs consistently, replies to comments positively and makes wise decisions related to his blog.

Do you Blog consistently?

I used to blog consistently till Christmas ’09. Due to health problems, I couldn’t continue my consistency.

To maintain a successful blog, a smart blogger blogs consistently. A smart blogger also informs his readers if he can’t blog for certain days.

Do you Comment?

Commenting and replying are necessary qualities of a smart Blogger.

Do you comment on other blogs?

If you want to excel in blogging, you will have to comment on other blogs. Commenting builds a sense of community. I know that I am repeating it again and again but commenting is important.

It doesn’t take a lot to comment, or reply. Remember: each comment has its own value and comments can bring you traffic.

How? Replying positively to comments is another thing. It doesn’t take much to turn a visitor into beast. Beast?

Yeah, a traffic sucking beast. If the visitor didn’t like your site, he may not recommend it to anyone…Thinking “No..Big Deal”. But he could give you lot of stress by writing bad reviews and spamming.

Yeah, I know I am going too deep here. Don’t worry, a normal commenter won’t do this type of thing. I mentioned “normal”.

Make wise decisions… Do you?

Do you make wise decisions about your blog?

Decision making stretches from Theme selection to Theme customization, or something that is more complicated.

Do you Clarify? What kind of English do you use for Blogging? American English, British English or other English version?

Example:

When an American reader visits a British Blogger’s site and reads his content he’ll notice that “color” is spelled “colour” (Which is correct for British English). He may think that the owner doesn’t know English (spelling and grammar) and may never visit his site again.

This example is just an example and this may be rare.  Again, if the visitor knows that the site uses British English, then it could be helpful.

Making wise choices. We will all have to make many choices during our lifetime. A high school student may need to decide on what major he should go for. There are many choices but only 1 that may fit right.

To a Blogger, making decisions is everything.

Whether to buy a custom domain, whether to choose wordpress or blogger, A blogger must make decisions, wise and smart decisions.

Think… Think about Thinking… Think on… And make wise decisions as a Smart Blogger.

Wish you Luck,

Wow excellent post from a 16 year old blogger. If I didn’t see his profile I would say he’s a pro blogger of some sort.

    Good points made here.

Every little thing down to exactly how you write and how often and what you write about are recognised and if so by the right people, bam!

If by the wrong people, well, that’s not necessarily a bad thing as you can always improve. Just be careful if you know how to do something and let it slide. It might cost you more than just money.

Blog smart as it’s the only way to blogses. Yeah, I made that up. :)

Keith made a very good point that I don’t want to go unnoticed…

If you ever plan or even think you might launch more then one blog then commenting and getting noticed is KEY; it WILL make future launches so much better with everyone already knowing who you are and prepared to help you launch.

Absolutely, the same goes for actual product launches and how you treat your existing customers, affiliates and joint venture partners. :)

      Thanks Dennis.

I think I can safely say that blogs and blogging didn’t exist when I was your age and I agree with your points here, so I think you’re amazing. I’m from England but most of my blog posts are read by Americans so I use American spellings in my blog and British English when I email my clients, etc. It requires some concentration. But blogging teaches us lots of things!

Some good points, here! I’m not a smart blogger on that first account, since I don’t stick to a fixed schedule.

But I’m good with the other two, I think.

    Cheers,
    Shane

@Phillip You are right. Whether you are a small or big blogger, commenting does help. That is the point. Thanks for the comment….

@Keith Thanks !!! Yes. Commenting doesn’t hurt a bit, unless of course your language is inappropriate. Many great Blogs like Tech Crunch and Mashable grew to became great blogs due to reader strength and community feeling. Thanks for the comment…

@Ari Yes commenting means communication. When you asked me “what do you mean by commenting”
you were communicating with me. Commenting forum in a blog/site is intended to clarify doubts, share one’s views. Nowadays we can see that commenting on sites have emerged to grow on a scale such that “A single comment can change a million opinions”. Thanks for commenting

Always nice to have a commentator rather than a lurker. Just from reading your link title I’ll be visiting to see what you’ve written about just showing the power of commenting.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment Ari,

Not bad for a 16yr old! If I only was blogging at 16 I wouldn’t have gotten into so much trouble! :-)

I love commenting on blogs, I started really amping up my comments before I launched my latest site, and as a result, I immediately got traffic and comments from the very first post!

    Great Article!

      @Keith

I can’t even remember if I knew what a blog was at 16… Jeevan will go far if he keeps on this track.

    Commenting rules :)
if you are a blogger (especially popular) commenting on other sites shows that you are not self-seeking.
If you are the little guy then commenting pulls visits and hopefully comments on your own blog :)
