Get My Website Found on Google: Proof That They Are A Good SEO Company?

Posted by Karl Foxley in Blog, Google, Search Engine Optimisation, SEO

I was contacted yesterday by a prospect, let’s call her Miss P., that was interested in finding out more about the SEO (search engine optimisation) that FMS provide. After an initial discussion I asked how Miss P. came to find our website and what was her experience of SEO?

Miss P. explained that she had been phoning around for quotes and one company seemed very good as they were ranking on the first page of Google for a particular search term. Miss P. went on to say that they used this as proof of how well they were ranking due to their very good grasp of SEO.

Now, I’m not going to call out the company but I am going to reveal what they are doing, what I found so annoying is that the search term they are ranking so well for is long-tail (which isn’t an issue) but has no competition and is hardly ever searched for (making it easy to rank highly).

I’m going to give you an example so you can spot this for yourself if you are contacting companies for SEO quotes.

I am going to use the following search term, ‘Get My Website Found on Google’. Now if I wanted to rank for this search term all I would need to do is create a page writing about it, like this one, and I shouldn’t have too much problem and here is why! Take a look at the image below:

I put the following, ‘get my website found on google’ and ‘get my website found in google’ into Google’s Adwords Keyword Tool and the results are shown above.

1. This show’s that these keyword phrases have very little competition.

2. The local search volume does not have enough data to give any figures.

3. The global search volume also does not have enough data to give any figures.

I also put the phrase into Google’s Traffic Estimator tool and it revealed that if I was bidding on these keywords for a Pay Per Click (PPC) campaign it would yield no clicks because not enough searches are performed for that term each day/month.

What this all means is simple, with low competition and low search volumes it is easy for someone to rank highly for something as redundant as ‘get my website found on Google.’

When you approach an SEO company and they show you something like this as proof that they are really good at what they do then I recommend you make some checks for yourself. As I adviced Miss P., please do not allow yourself to be mislead! It is good to build pages that have low competition but they do need to have, at least, a few searches each month for you to ever get any traffic to your site. I dread to think what keywords they suggest their clients use to rank well in Google!

You can get a free SEO health check for your website (UK business websites only) undertaken by us, absolutely free to see how well your website is performing or just to see how well your SEO company has worked for you.

Now, I wonder how well the keyword phrase used in my example will rank for me!

To your success,

Karl Foxley
