Saying Thank You To Our Top Referrers
This post is to share some link love back to those that have sent us the most visitors over the past month, 27/07/2010 to 26/08/2010.
The information presented here is taken from our Google Analytics account but before you look at the list I want to share my thoughts on a few things.
Below you will see that this site consistently receives visitors from a large number of CSS Galleries.
The benefit to using CSS Galleries is that it is a set-it and forget-it traffic stream, some sites are still sending us traffic from a submission I made over a year ago.
The downside to using CSS Galleries is the fact that the visitors are not targeted, land on your site, look at your design and leave again; not good for your bounce rate.
A surprise for me was seeing Intel Seek (link below) make it into the list as it is a directory submission site of the traditional kind (who said all directories were dead!).
As expected Google (.com and .co.uk) are always in our top referrers.
Here is a thank you to Alex Whalley for sending us visitors from his Threadless Thursday post; go read it when you are finished here as he shares some other useful links as well.
Another interesting thing to note, PrimoThemes has been in our top 20 referrers every since we wrote about their very useful plugin, WordPress Banner Ad Rotator Widget.
The traffic PrimoThemes sends here comes via a trackback to our post so be sure to include trackbacks in your marketing strategy.
If you see sites on the list that you have not heard of before be sure to visit and check them out, you may find a good future traffic source for your website.
Right, starting with the highest first, here is our…

My top referral is hi5.com, I know is not as popular as facebook in terms of social network but it works for me and bring me a good deal of traffic.

That’s a nice list of referrers there – are these mostly blogroll links, comment signatures or something else?

Hey Karl, this is a great way to give back and a great idea. I’m getting tons of traffic from BloggerLuv and Blog Engage too. I’m curious though as to why you aren’t getting more from Bing or Yahoo!
I need to find out more about Quantcast and Dagaloo. Keep up the good work.
Oh and I’m on my way over to Alex’s site now:)
Ileane recently posted..Power Twitter User In The Making
Hi Ileane,
They were just outside the top twenty.
A lot of the search terms that bring people to our site from Google have very different (much lower) search numbers in Yahoo and Bing.
We have quite a few pages that are highly targeted for long-tail searches, and these particular search terms don’t fair that well on the other search engines and yet bring us a consistent flow of Google visitors.
I’m going to do some work on a few pages that will target Yahoo! and / or Bing and then see how they fair. It will also be good to see how these particular pages will be picked up by the big G.
Always a pleasure to see you here Ileane,
Karl
I decided to have another look at my stats today Ileane and it’s funny how quickly things can change when you hit the right spot at the right time.
Yahoo has just gone straight in at number 7.
RSS has jumped to number 3, Stumble Upon is in at number 5 and Bing is at number 14.
The numbers between Google.com (1) and the sites below it is quite considerable but then it shows we are doing something right.
Hey Karl. That is funny
I had something funny happen for me too. I went to sign up for Quantcast and it turns out I’d done it already. LOL!

You won’t believe how often I’m guilty of that one Ileane. Someone will mention a ‘great new’ site and I’ll shoot over to sign-up only to say that my username that I generally use has already been taken. Then I try a few of my log-ins and, wouldn’t you know, I’ve already registered. lol
This is a very unique idea…I am seeing something of this kind (link-love to top referrers) for the first time. Even my top two are Google and Blog Engage at the moment.

Hi Karl,
Another good idea of yours – would love it if http://noaspa.blogspot.com were to send you lots of traffic in the future … and hopefully there’ll be a little next week when FMS will be the top link on “noaspa news”.
Very best wishes
Will

Thanks for the mention and the link love Karl. It really was my pleasure to link to that post mate. (if it’s not too much trouble, I would love to know what that traffic figure was -just for my stats
– shoot me an email if it’s not asking too much).
I really like the way you laid out this post. it’s link love but in a clever SEO kind of way – and I liked the prelude. Not a regular reader but you made me feel like one. THAT is good blogging right there.
Thanks again Karl
Hey Alex,
I’ll shoot you a message later today.
It’s really great to see blog engage preforming for you and ranking so high in overall generated traffic. I was actually pleasantly surprised to see mmo social network up there as well.
It’s also nice to see your taking advantage of bloggerluv! Thanks for sharing your traffic sources with us Karl.
