Email Personalisation: Should You Personalise Your Email Campaigns?

Email Personalisation: Should You Personalise Your Email Campaigns?

Posted by Karl Foxley in Blog, Coaching, Email Marketing

One of the major selling points of using an email service provider (ESP) such as iContact is the ability to personalise your emails. Depending on what information you are capturing with your web-form (lead capture form) the personalisation options available to you are wide-ranging, first name, last name, email, city, etc.

Let’s say you are using iContact, you will be able to send out emails that look like this:

‘firstname, a new blog post is online’

‘You need to read this firstname‘

‘I’m going to be in city firstname‘

Using the examples above, and let’s say your name is Beverly and you live in London, now look at the email subject lines that you would recieve containing your information.

‘Beverly, a new blog post is online’

‘You need to read this Beverly‘

‘I’m going to be in London Beverly‘

You see, using iContact, and other dedicated ESPs, you will be able to do this for all of your emails. You should certainly be doing this for the body of your email. When establishing a relationship with your email subscribers, personalisation will really help you stand out.

You should always test and test again, so try sending out emails with and without personalisation in the subject line and see what works best for you. Another cool feature is the ability to fix the names of your subscribers when you send out an email. You see, some people will enter their name into your web form without any capitalisation, so they will receive an email like this:

‘beverly hart, you need to read this today!

By using iContact you will be able to fix the name automatically when you send out an email so that it will now look like this:

‘Beverly Hart, you need to read this today!

A small feature but one you can see will reap plenty of benefits for your business and your email marketing campaigns. To answer the question, ‘should you personalise your email campaigns?‘ My asnswer is YES. Have you ever opened your email client, and skimmed over 100 new messages to find the emails that are important. I can bet the ones that standout the most are the ones with your name in the subject line.

You can give iContact a free test drive by visiting the website here. This will give you a chance to see the powerful benefits of using all of iContact’s features that are on offer that will seriously increase your repeat visitors and profits.

To your email marketing success,

Karl Foxley

P.s. Be sure to mix up your email subject lines, sometimes include personalisation and some times leave it out completely.

P.p.s You will also be able to personalise your emails using AWeber, GetResponse, etc.
