Who Else Wants More RSS Subscribers?

Who Else Wants More RSS Subscribers?

Posted by Kelly Foxley in Blog, Blogging, General Blogging

You do don’t you? I’m sure you’ve seen it by now, blogs that wear their large RSS subscriber count like a badge of honour.

Are you still struggling to get people to grab your feed? Well, let me share with you the easiest way to get more people to sign-up.

Really Simple Syndication

If you have been blogging for a while you will surely heard about RSS (really simple syndication) and how useful it is for allowing your visitors to grab your blog’s feed to stay up-to-date with your latest posts; and they don’t even have to visit your blog.

Well here’s the thing, not everybody knows what RSS is and why it is so useful. To get more RSS subscribers you have to…

Blog About RSS

It sounds simple and that’s because it is. If you blog regularly then start to add an RSS themed post every few weeks or so and watch your subscriber count go up each time.

Before we moved from our old domain we wrote a post, 5 Reasons To Subscribe To Our RSS Feed, that we also linked to from our sidebar (as we have now done here).

Our subscriber count went from just over 300 to over 1000 in little over a month. I’m not saying you will have the same results but you will see a steady increase in your numbers.

Please take some time and read the post and then create something similar for your blog.

A Little Help

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • What is RSS?
  • How to integrate Feedburner with your blog.
  • 5 Powerful Alternatives to Feedburner.
  • 7 RSS Hacks.
  • How To Increase Your Productivity With A Desktop RSS Reader.

I can bet you’ve already got some post titles lined-up. Just be sure to end your posts with a prompt to grab your feed!

On that note, here is our RSS feed for you to grab.

If you’d rather grab our RSS-to-email then you can do that here.

See how easy that was, can you do the same for your readers?

Best wishes,

Kelly-Anne Foxley

P.s. Be sure to read 5 Reasons To Subscribe To Our RSS Feed and feel free to use something similar on your blog.

    Hi Kelly,

Important stuff for sure – and I’ve just added your rss feed to my twitter profile via HootSuite. By the way, am a bit surprised to see that at the moment your rss isn’t displayed in your sidebar ( at least not to me). Is that a deliberate strategy to get more e-mail subscriptions – and , if so, does it work?

Best wishe to you & Karl

    @Michelle

AWeber has so many great features and what you’ve described is yet another reason why we really like the service.

    Best wishes,

Ooooohhhh great idea! I was all ready to click on 5 Powerful Alternatives to Feedburner and now you have me really curious what those alternatives are!

I haven’t written about RSS but I should as I’ve described it to so many people!

One new thing I started and I’ll see how it continues to grow is offering an option to my RSS feed by having my weekly recap delivered via email (using Aweber). I’ve had a good number of signups on it and I’ll continue trying it for awhile to see how it goes. Of course, I’ll never get that badge of honor if everyone signs up that way!

I read somewhere that a Friend Feed account also helps to give your feed count a somewhat artificial boost by adding more friends to your Friend Feed.

Good stuff, plain and simple. :-)
I wrote “RSS Feeds – What are They?” back in October and got a little bounce out of it, but your idea here to write on the topic more regularly is a good one.

As I’ve only written two articles on this in 9 months, I will take your advice. :-)

There are some really brilliant RSS related articles on the web where the author fails to mention that they themselves have a feed for their website.

I look forward to reading your posts Jimi and discovering the ways you discuss the topic.
I’d also love to hear how it works out for you.
